Keeping a news sitemap honest
A news sitemap is a rolling window, not an archive. The usual setup is a dynamic /news-sitemap.xml that your CMS rebuilds on every publish, containing only the last two days. Use this generator to prototype the format, to cover a one-off event microsite, or to check what your CMS should be producing.
Use a timezone on publication_date. 2026-09-27T06:40:00+00:00 is unambiguous, while 2026-09-27 06:40 is not valid W3C Datetime, and the article may be treated as older or newer than it is.
